Talk about Internet revolution. This is a protest against a particular form of sexual harrassment, eve-teasing, prevelent in India, even though it is a practice that is common all over the world, manifested in differerent forms.
I don’t know whether it’s about Indian men brought up in India, they are just not taught to treat women right as a whole while they are taught to revere the women in their family. They are taught to conform to what they think women should be, failing to realize that the world has moved on, and when discovering that, punishing women for trying to be modern. For a country that reveres its women, which has a religion that reveres its women, its a degeneration like nothing else.
And while I think this attitude is changing and its just as terrible for Indian men to be lumped in the same group as eve teasers, women sometimes have no choice. We would rather trust no one than trust the wrong one. And it is disconcerting to see that these Indian men outside of India behave in the exact same manner as they would in India. I live here, been to India many times and been to other parts of the world as well, and the attitude has not an iota of change in it. I would think that, being in a foreign country, where the attitude towards woman is vastly different, it would act as a restraint in some manner. And I'm still waiting to see that restraint.
Simply, its the way they objectify women, its terrible.
The way they stare at you, like they were mentally stripping you, until feel so violated. The way they pass lewd comments that they would punch another man for saying about their sister or mother. They way they "accidentally" brush up against you.
If you were a girl and you have been to Serangoon Road on a Sunday, you know exactly what I mean.
Sometimes, it’s really not about equality. It’s about respect.
